Anybody who has found themselves with the need to obtain extra storage for their computing needs understands that Iomega hard drives are built to last due to their quality, durability and reliability. Over the years, this innovative and nimble company has designed a wide range of external and portable hard drives that are known throughout the industry.

For those unfamiliar with what a hard drive actually is, they should know that these non-volatile drives digitally encode the data they receive on to what are called platters. These platters spin very rapidly and are also magnetized. The word "drive" doesn't refer to anything to do with the means by which the data is encoded, though. It actually refers to the mechanical nature of the unit.

Every hard drive is actually what is called a "hard disc drive." These days, just about every HDD comes sealed except for one or two small holes that allow the drive to equalize internal pressures. All hard drives can trace their ancestry back to the efforts put forth by IBM, which debuted the first one in'56.

Any drive manufactured by Iomega is considered to be a perfect expression of all of the years of development and technological innovation that has gone into the making of these electronic storage units. It is a high-quality, high-volume maker of portable and external hard drives. It is interesting to note that prices for such drives have come down greatly over the years.

Many drives made by Iomega come with a great deal of storage capacity. A typical model will have at least 500 GB, and will come in at a price that might be surprising. In some cases, that much storage can be had for less than $70. Also, they are relatively light weight. Many of them weigh only 4 pounds or so.

The lineup of portable hard drives made by Iomega feature a multitude of ways in which they can connect to just about any computer. The company has packed all of them with a number of wireless technologies, including the very popular FireWire, along with standard USB 2. 0 connectivity. This makes these drives a particular favorite of serious users.

Most anybody who gives Iomega hard drives the chance to show what they can do invariably walks away from the experience very pleased. The company has worked extremely hard over the years to develop a series of external and portable hard drives that are second to none, in addition to almost all of them being surprisingly affordable. Some come in at less than $70, in fact.
