In an age of technology where virtually anything is possible, people feel more and more compelled to protect their children. One of the ways that they do this is by purchasing state of the art cellular phones for them. Their intentions in doing so are good because they have the desire to know where their children are every second of the day, and that is good. The problem with this is that in most cases, the children often have other ideas for their cell phone which you never would have even dreamed of.

A big problem with cell phones is that they come with so many advanced features like text messaging, camera phones, and internet access. You may be listening out for inappropriate phone conversations that your kids are having, but you may never hear one. That's because they're texting inappropriate conversations, and you will never know it because they can delete their messages.

In some cases, children have been known to take explicit photos of themselves and send them around to friends, boyfriends, girlfriends, or even post them on the internet. This type of phone activity is commonly referred to as "sexting" which simply signifies "sex texting". What you should be concerned about is not only the personal effect this will have on your child, but the legal implications as well. Your child could be charged with child pornography offenses, could go to jail, and could have to register as a sex offender. This simple little act could effect them for the rest of their lives.

If your children are begging you for a cellular phone, then keep in mind all of the traffic accidents related to cellular phones, mainly surrounding text messages and the sending of them while in heavy traffic. They may give you great reasons for why they want a cell phone, and all of these might sound excellent, but you need to consider the ulterior motives your children may have.

Your child may insist upon his or her need to get a cell phone. If this is the case, drive your child to the nearest unemployment office and have him or her begin looking for a job. You may even want to get the little tike some business cards to help him out. If your child wants to be more adult like by having a cell phone, then your child should also be more adult like by gettinga job and paying their own bills.

Some parents, after reading this, will still desire to get their child a cellular phone for security reasons. If that is the case, make sure that you get your child a phone with limited additional features. Make sure that your child's cellular phone comes with parental controls so that you can keep tabs on what they are doing. Cameras and messaging abilities do not come with every phone and can be taken off of a phone plan. Keep this in mind when getting your child a phone for security.

No matter how easy it is to give in, remember that you are the parent and you are responsible for your own child!
