The Samsung CLP 500 printer is a great machine as long as you stay within its capabilities. Though this printer is marketed, as being for small offices it really is best suited for home and family use. The paper output is not very high as the input and output trays hold only 250 sheets of paper. The reason it is not really suited for small businesses is that the Samsung CLP 500 printer does not have any small networking capabilities. Check out Samsung CLP 500 toner.

Once you have found a home for the printer it is best to stay there, as the CLP 500 is quite hefty, weight 35 kg when fully loaded. It tends to print graphics better then text though the differences are minute.

The CLP 500 can be upgraded to contain Ethernet and wireless connectivity but if you want these features you may be able to save on the cost by purchasing the Samsung CLP 500N printer. The standard CLP 500printer connects using either a parallel port of USB cable. The USB cable does not come with the printer. A great feature is the fact that the printer does double-sided printing and it can connect to either a personal computer of a Mac.

The printer can be connected to your computer using a parallel port or USB cable, though the USB cable is not provided with the printer. For an additional cost you can have Ethernet and wireless networking added though you may as well upgrade to the Samsung CLP 500N printer if you want these. However the printer will do double sided printing, which may be a good option instead of having wireless networking options. It can be connected to a PC of Mac computer.

The difference is not so great that you could not use the printer for home, personal or small office use. Though if you print a lot of text and not so much graphics you may want to look into another printer.

The printer operates on a 4-toner system, and will come with a starter Samsung Toner. You will need to purchase a replacement toner cartridge with the printer or very soon in the near future as the starter cartridge only lasts for about 2,000 pages. The machine also comes with several memory options, as it is possible to upgrade from 65 MB of RAM to a maximum of 192 MB.

The printer is compatible with many different Linux systems including, Linux Mandrake, Debian Linux, Slackware Linux, Caldera Open Linux, Red Hat Linux, TurboLinux, and SuSe Linux. Linux operating systems are used a lot in businesses. It is also compatible with Microsoft Windows 96 or later and Apple MacOS 8.6 or later. It can print on various media, even custom sized papers. As long as the paper is below the maximum width and length (8.5 x 14 inches) then you will be bale to print on the media.
